
Sure she's got some pirate-esque cataracts, but on the whole this seal is really healthy considering the life expectancy of a harbor seal in the wild is about 20 years. The extra lifespan can be attributed to the lack of food stress and attentive medical attention the seals get at the Aquarium.
This morning the marine mammal trainers are celebrating by presenting Smoke with a fish cake (yummy layers of squid, herring and capelin). There will be a candle lit on the top of that pile o' fish, but Smoke doesn't know the behavior to blow it out. For that she will be assisted by one of her fellow harbor seals.
