Speaking the Oceans' Language

NEAQ educators know how to teach science, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Marine animals are a gateway to all kinds of learning, including learning a new language. Here's a sample from the story:

"This big clam is my favorite," he says to her in English. "It looks like a boat."

"It does look like a boat," Villegas said while snapping a picture with her digital camera. "How does the water feel?"

"It is very, very cold," said Alberto.

After being brushed by a sea creature, Alberto lifts his hands out of the water abruptly and bursts into a smile.

"Watch out," he warned his mother. "There's crabs in here, and they tickle me!"
